Moving an Office 150 Miles — Collected, Delivered and Set Up in One Day
Opening a new office is rarely about the furniture until suddenly it is. You have the space, you have the start date, and you have a room that needs desks, chairs and storage in it before anyone can work there. When the furniture is 150 miles away, that becomes a logistics job rather than a shopping one.
Why the setup matters more than the delivery
A haulier will bring office furniture from A to B and leave it in the entrance. That is a delivery, not a move. What actually makes an office usable is the last hour: desks positioned where they are going, chairs and storage units assembled, and the meeting area laid out. If that is not in the quote, it becomes your problem — usually on a weekend, usually with an allen key.
- Agree explicitly whether assembly and positioning are included, not just transport
- Decide the floor layout before the van arrives so furniture is placed once, not twice
- Keep fixings bagged and labelled per item at the collection end
- Load in reverse order — what goes in first at the new office comes off last
Planning a 150-mile office move
A long run changes the shape of the day. Everything has to fit in one load, because a second trip is not a realistic option, and the start has to be early enough that the setup still happens in working hours at the far end.
| Local office move | Long-distance office move |
|---|---|
| Second trip possible if needed | Everything must go in one load |
| Flexible start time | Early start so setup finishes in the day |
| Access checked at two nearby sites | Access confirmed in advance at both ends, often unseen |
| Often hourly | Fixed price for the whole job |
What to confirm before the day
- Parking and loading access at both ends, including any height or weight restrictions
- Lift availability and booking, if either building has one
- Who holds the keys and who signs off at the destination
- Whether IT equipment is travelling with the furniture or separately
- The exact layout for each room so the crew can place and build in one pass
A recent example
A6 Motors opened a new office in Houghton Regis and needed it furnished and working quickly. The office furniture — desks, task chairs, storage units and meeting-room furniture — was collected from an office in Manchester, around 150 miles north, and brought south the same day. Rather than dropping it as flat-pack, our crew positioned the desks, assembled the chairs and storage, and set out the meeting area, so the office was usable rather than a room full of boxes. One team handled the collection, the run and the setup, with no third-party handover in between.

The customer on that job was A6 Motors
A6 Motors is a used car dealership on the A6 at Barton-le-Clay in Bedfordshire, selling premium used vehicles — Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen among others — with part-exchange and finance available. If you are moving house locally and thinking about changing the car at the same time, they are worth a look. Named and linked here with their permission.
