Who to Notify When You Move House — Complete UK Address Change Checklist
Changing your address is one of the most easily overlooked parts of moving. Miss one organisation and you risk missing tax letters, bank statements or parcels — or worse, your personal information reaching the wrong address. Work through this list before and after your move.
Government & legal (do these first)
- HMRC — update your address online or by post
- DVLA — update your driving licence and V5C vehicle logbook
- Electoral roll — register at your new address via gov.uk
- Passport — no legal requirement but update when you next renew
- DWP — if you receive any benefits or state pension
Banking & finance
- All bank and building society accounts
- Credit cards
- Loans and mortgages
- Insurance (home, car, life, travel)
- Pension providers and investment accounts
- PayPal and any payment platforms
Utilities & home
- Gas and electricity suppliers (take meter readings on moving day)
- Water provider
- Broadband and landline (arrange transfer or new connection in advance)
- TV licence
- Council tax — cancel at old address, register at new one
Health
- GP surgery — register with a new practice near your new home
- Dentist
- Optician
- Any specialist or regular prescription services
Subscriptions & deliveries
- Amazon, eBay and any regular online shops
- Magazine and newspaper subscriptions
- Streaming services (Netflix, Sky, Disney+)
- Gym membership
- Club memberships
Work & professional
- Your employer's HR or payroll team
- Any professional bodies or trade associations
- Companies House if you're a director
Pro tip: Set up a Royal Mail address redirect (from £33.99) to catch anything you miss. It buys you up to 12 months for everything to catch up.
